Hello, Paul,
ReplyDeleteI saw this item about the death of Annaghdown parish priest Thomas Keaveney in erly Feb 1858. From what I can see of the baptismal registers for Annaghdown, there appears to be a gap from 2 December 1857 to early July 1858, perhaps related to the change in priests--is this correct? I am asking because I can find my great-grandmother's siblings (children of James Carr and Mary Farty/Faherty of Annaghdown) in the registers, but I cannot find my great-grandmother (Ellen Carr), and her most likely birth date would have been mid December 1857, during this apparent gap. Thank you very much for the work you are doing!

Hi Julie,
DeleteThanks for your comment! I hadn't noticed the gap in the registers but it is certainly explained by the interval between the death of Fr Keaveney and the appointment of Fr Peter Waldron in 1858. Fr John Charles was Administrator temporarily before Fr Waldron's appointment but it appears he didn't record any baptisms, unfortunately. I see from the baptisms that James Carr and Mary Faherty lived in Annaghdown village (called Knockbluff in the record). I would imagine that their son is the Patrick Carr who appears on the 1901 census in Annaghdown, born about 1832. His daughter Bridget married Michael Carr in 1895.
